In 2015, President Obama signed into law S. 1557, the Children’s Hospital GME Support Act of 2013, reauthorizing the CHGME program through 2018.

The CHGME program allows us to support the training of future pediatricians and subspecialists. Nicklaus Children’s Hospital receives $4.5 million in Children’s Hospital

Graduate Medical Education funding. In December of 2015, Congressional leaders passed the FY 16 Omnibus Appropriations bill, which increased funding for CHGME for the first time since 2010. The program will receive an additional $30 million, total $295 million, toward the preservation of future pediatric training.

For the sickest children, pediatric specialists are indispensable, and today we are facing a national shortage of these essential providers. We encourage leaders at the state and federal level to support programs that continue to enhance Graduate Medical Education.
